Finchecker Returns from UN Fintech Forum 2026 in Riga

On 15 October, the Finchecker team joined fintech founders, banking professionals, compliance specialists, regulators and technology companies at the UN Fintech Forum in Riga. The forum brought together people working on the next stage of European financial services, with discussions covering cross-border payments, fintech licensing, MiCA, compliance, AI and cooperation between banks and fintech companies. For us, it was an opportunity to step outside our day-to-day work, exchange perspectives with people across the financial ecosystem and reflect on the technology challenges facing growing financial businesses.

Building fintech means solving more than one problem

Launching or scaling a financial product involves more than developing a good customer experience. Businesses also need reliable payment infrastructure, effective risk controls, workable compliance processes and systems that can support growth.
These requirements become especially important for digital banks, payment service providers (PSPs), electronic money institutions (EMIs) and fintech startups entering regulated markets.
As transaction volumes and customer bases grow, manual checks and disconnected systems can become harder to manage. Compliance teams need access to relevant information, consistent risk decisions and a clear record of the actions taken.
Technology should help financial businesses manage these responsibilities without making everyday operations unnecessarily complicated.

Compliance infrastructure is part of the product

For a new bank or payment company, compliance is not simply a final step before launch. It influences customer onboarding, payment processing, fraud prevention and ongoing risk management.
Several capabilities need to work together:

  • KYC and KYB verification to establish who a customer or business is before onboarding.

  • AML and sanctions screening to identify relevant risk indicators and potential matches.

  • Ongoing monitoring to detect meaningful changes in a customer’s risk profile after onboarding.

  • Transaction monitoring to identify suspicious patterns in payment activity.

  • Payment fraud prevention to detect and help stop unauthorised transactions.
The challenge is not just having these capabilities available. It is ensuring that the right information reaches the right workflow at the right time, with decisions that can be explained and reviewed.
At Finchecker, we work on compliance and risk-management technology for regulated financial businesses, including banks, PSPs, EMIs and fintech companies.

From customer onboarding to transaction monitoring

Financial risk does not stop when a customer passes an initial check.

A business may need to verify a customer at onboarding, reassess the relationship when new information appears and monitor transactions for suspicious behaviour. Each stage addresses a different part of the risk-management process.

For teams reviewing their existing setup, it helps to understand how these stages fit together:

The right combination depends on the business model, payment flows, regulatory obligations and existing technology. There is no single setup that fits every financial institution.

Why conversations across the fintech ecosystem matter

Events such as UN:Block Fintech Forum 2026 create space to compare perspectives across different parts of the industry. Founders, banks, regulators, investors and technology providers approach financial services from different angles, but they all have a stake in building systems that can operate reliably in a changing regulatory and commercial environment.
For Finchecker, these conversations are a useful reminder to keep looking beyond individual products and consider the wider workflows in which compliance technology is used.
The goal is practical: help financial businesses manage risk, support their operations and make informed decisions as they grow.
